Softball Recap: Mercy Bears vs. Mills Vikings
Mercy dropped their record down to 9-9 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They lost 11-0 to the Mills Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-6 back in March.
Mercy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elena Gonzalez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
As for Mills, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3-1 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.2 runs.
On Mills' side, Hailey Pedroza tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Pedroza a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Lucy Esquivel was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Sydney Wong was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Coming up, Mercy will head out to challenge Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 3:30 p.m. on the 28th.
