Basketball Recap: Somonauk/Leland Comes Up Short

Somonauk/Leland's tournament run continued when they took on Flanagan/Woodland on Thursday. The Somonauk/Leland Bobcats'2024 ended with a 59-40 loss against the Flanagan/Woodland Falcons. The Bobcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ella Derossett was her usual excellent self, going 11 for 24 on her way to 27 points in addition to eight rebounds and eight steals for Flanagan/Woodland. That makes it six consecutive games in which Derossett has scored at least a third of Flanagan/Woodland's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kora Edens, who went 5 of 7 en route to 12 points and three steals.

Somonauk/Leland's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Flanagan/Woodland, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Somonauk/Leland will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Amboy at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Flanagan/Woodland, they and Hinckley-Big Rock will face off at 1:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.
