Preview: Santa Gertrudis Academy Lions vs. Progreso Red Ants
The Santa Gertrudis Academy Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Progreso Red Ants at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Santa Gertrudis Academy and 19 for Progreso dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Santa Gertrudis Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 18-13 to Falfurrias.
Meanwhile, Progreso fell victim to Lyford's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Bulldogs 71-0.
Santa Gertrudis Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Progreso, their loss was their 11th straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9.
Everything came up roses for Santa Gertrudis Academy against Progreso when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 60-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Gertrudis Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
