Softball Recap: South Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

South waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Mira Monte Lions get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.

Sienna Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, South got a massive performance out of Zowey Estrada, who went 2-for-3 with two triples and four RBI. Those two triples gave Estrada a new career-high. Jimena Flores was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in six consecutive games.

South's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Mira Monte, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

South will have a chance to go back-to-back against Mira Monte: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
