Basketball Recap: Iwalani Lealao's Big Game Can't Quite Lead James Logan over Moreau Catholic

James Logan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 42-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Moreau Catholic Mariners. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-43 back in December of 2024.

Several Colts players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Iwalani Lealao, who posted 14 points and five boards. Lealao has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mauriah Mchenry, who earned ten points.

Moreau Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaliya Kirkwood out in front who scored five points in addition to 21 rebounds and six steals. The dominant performance gave Kirkwood a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Elisa Ortega, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 12 points.

James Logan's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Moreau Catholic, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

James Logan will take on American at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. American will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something James Logan surely won't give up without a fight. Moreau Catholic has already played their next contest (against Mission San Jose), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
