Baseball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Vikings vs. American Fork Cavemen

For the second straight game, Pleasant Grove will face off against American Fork. The Vikings will square off against the Cavemen at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pleasant Grove will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak.

Pleasant Grove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: American Fork, who was ranked third at the time (Pleasant Grove was ranked first). The Vikings were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Cavemen on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Pleasant Grove got a great performance from Keaton Nordick as he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Nordick has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, C.J. Anderson was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Clement, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Pleasant Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Pleasant Grove pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for American Fork, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.

Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pleasant Grove has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489.
