Basketball Recap: Andrew Okafor Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Monsignor Mcclancy

Archbishop McCarthy's tournament run continued when they took on Monsignor McClancy on Saturday. The Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks came out on top against the Monsignor McClancy Crusaders by a score of 68-55. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mavericks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Archbishop McCarthy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Okafor, who shot 4-for-6 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards. The dominant performance gave Okafor a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Richard Segovia, who posted 20 points and three steals.

Archbishop McCarthy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Archbishop McCarthy's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Monsignor McClancy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Archbishop McCarthy will welcome Miami Country Day at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Miami Country Day knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Archbishop McCarthy likes a good challenge. As for Monsignor McClancy, they will look to defend their home court on January 11th against All Hallows at 6:00 p.m.
