Softball Game Preview: Henry Clay Blue Devils vs. Bourbon County Colonels

The Henry Clay Blue Devils are taking a road trip to square off against the Bourbon County Colonels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bourbon County took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Henry Clay, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, Henry Clay beat Corbin 7-2.

Ella Smith was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elise Pearson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Bourbon County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Montgomery County, falling 8-1.

Bourbon County's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Henry Clay, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-6.

Henry Clay might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Bourbon County in their previous meeting back in April of 2017. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
