Softball Recap: St. Joseph Wins Going Away Against Absegami

St. Joseph got themselves on the board against Absegami on Thursday, but Absegami never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 7-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won three contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Elaina Portalatin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alaina Dorsey was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley Hunter, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for St. Joseph and bumps their season record up to 6-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Absegami, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Joseph will square off against Mainland Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Absegami, they will challenge Our Lady of Mercy Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
