Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty). They claimed a resounding 49-20 win over the Centennial Golden Hawks. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Patriots' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 378th).

Elmo Whitten was his usual excellent self, rushing for 110 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Brogan Witcher, who threw for 144 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Liberty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 365 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Liberty, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Brandon Thrasher, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Centennial, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Liberty will face off against Garces Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th. The Patriots' defense better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 32.7 points per game this season. As for Centennial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Stockdale at 7:30 p.m. on the 24th.
