Basketball Game Preview: Escondido Cougars vs. Chula Vista Spartans

Escondido is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They skirted past High Tech Mesa 53-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since January 26, 2024.

Meanwhile, Chula Vista had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They walked away with a 48-40 victory over the Caimans.

Chula Vista's win came from a few key players Escondido will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Giovanni Contreras, who posted 23 points. Elijah Gillespie was another key player, putting up 14 points.

The win made it two in a row for Escondido and bumps their season record up to 16-11. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points over those games. As for Chula Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 22-6.
