Murrieta Valley dropped down to 6-2 on Friday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins. They took a blow against the Centennial Huskies, falling 48-20. The contest was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Nighthawks couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the defeat, Murrieta Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryder Lopez rushed for 59 yards and one score. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Jacob Taddi, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

As for Centennial, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.0 points over those games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centennial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dominick Catalano, who rushed for 36 yards and one TD, and also threw for 135 yards while completing 78.6% of his passes. Zander Lewis was another key back, rushing for 74 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Murrieta Valley will square off against Vista Murrieta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Jeremiah Watson and Damarii Booth. As for Centennial, they will face off against Norco at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.38 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
