Baseball Recap: Wayne's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Wayne came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Crete Cardinals. The Blue Devils have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cardinals, too.

Gavin Redden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wayne saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Contreras, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Wayne's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Crete, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Wayne will take on rival Roncalli Catholic at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Crete is set to square off against their familiar foe South Sioux City at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
