Father McGivney Catholic proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 18) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Metro-East Lutheran Knights 6-5. The Griffins have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Knights, too.

Avery Grenzebach was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Grenzebach wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddy Callovini, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Father McGivney Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Metro-East Lutheran, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Father McGivney Catholic has already played their next match, a 20-2 loss against Okawville on the 23rd. As for Metro-East Lutheran, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 12-0 win against East St. Louis on the 23rd.
