Basketball Recap: East Chapel Hill Takes a Loss

East Chapel Hill was the 59-45 winner over Athens Drive when they last played one another back in December of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The East Chapel Hill Wildcats had to suffer through a 68-32 loss at the hands of the Athens Drive Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while the Jaguars are ranked 152nd).

It was another big night for Kianna Gulley, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 14 rebounds for Athens Drive. That's the most boards Gulley has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Kelly, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 12 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

East Chapel Hill is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7. As for Athens Drive, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-3.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the East Chapel Hill Wildcats face off against the Orange Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Athens Drive, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. Athens Drive has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
