Preview: Sierra Chieftains vs. Riverdale Christian Ambassadors
The Sierra Chieftains will head out on the road to face off against the Riverdale Christian Ambassadors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sierra has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 166 points over their last four matchups.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Sierra walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 40-16 margin over Orcutt Academy. Sierra pushed the score to 40-8 by the end of the third, a deficit Orcutt Academy cut but never quite recovered from.
Sierra's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tanner Forrester led the charge by rushing for 51 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. Aaron Irvine was another key contributor, throwing for 130 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Riverdale Christian entered their tilt with Laton with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Riverdale Christian didn't even let Laton onto the board and left with a 2-0 win two weeks ago. Given Riverdale Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Laton is ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sierra now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Riverdale Christian, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Sierra came up short against Riverdale Christian in their previous matchup back in September, falling 30-22. Can Sierra avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
