Baseball Recap: Stratford Has No Trouble Against Wewoka

Stratford barely beat Wewoka the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs blew past the Tigers 11-2 on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Oliver Smithwick was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Smithwick was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zane Harrod, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Stratford's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 5-17 when he doesn't). Camon McNew was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Stratford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.

Stratford's record now sits at 7-18. As for Wewoka, they dropped their record down to 0-18 with the loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Stratford and Wewoka could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 351st) will meet Colbert (ranked 56th) at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Wewoka will take on Tushka at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (407 vs. 20).
