Basketball Recap: Novinger Comes Up Short

After flying high against Linn County last Tuesday, Novinger came back down to earth. The Novinger Wildcats came up short against the Green City Gophers on Friday, falling 59-35. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Gophers are ranked 104th).

Green City was led to victory by Jaryn Hatcher and Macy Jeffries. Hatcher dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 boards, while Jeffries went 10 for 24 en route to 24 points and six steals. Hatcher is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Alexa Lee was another key player, putting up eight points.

Novinger's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Green City, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Novinger has already played their next contest (against La Plata), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Green City will take on Brashear at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brashear will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Green City surely won't give up without a fight.
