Basketball Recap: Westwood Takes a Loss

Westwood lost against Mesa last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Westwood Warriors were beaten by the Mesa Jackrabbits 62-32. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Jackrabbits are ranked 70th).

Mesa's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tricity Winfield, who posted eight points and four steals. That's the most points Winfield has posted since back in November of 2024. Vanessa Cordova also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Westwood dropped their record down to 2-14 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Mesa, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-9.

Westwood will head out to take on Dobson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westwood is facing Dobson at the right time seeing as Dobson is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. Mesa has already played their next contest (against Skyline), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
