Basketball Recap: Carver Comes Up Short

Carver lost against Holy Innocents Episcopal back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Carver Panthers were dealt an 89-43 loss at the hands of the Holy Innocents Episcopal Golden Bears. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-22.

Carver's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacory Pickett, who posted seven points and four steals. Ezekiel Ferguson was another key player, putting up six points.

It was another big night for Caleb Wilson, who went 12 of 18 en route to 29 points along with seven boards and five steals for Holy Innocents Episcopal. The contest was Wilson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Devin Hutcherson, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Carver has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which is still a better percentage than their 4-15 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 30.3% in those games and 23.3% outside of them. As for Holy Innocents Episcopal, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-4.

Carver will face off against Therrell at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Therrell has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Holy Innocents Episcopal, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 86-38 win against East Hall on the 1st.
