Baseball Recap: Clayton Wins Going Away Against Fort Towson

After low-scoring totals in their previous six contests, Clayton brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on the Fort Towson Tigers with a sharp 14-1 victory on Tuesday. The Bulldogs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2, 2024.

Patrick May made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Clayton is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise. May was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Draven Ardnt was a standout: he scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brandon Marris, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.

Clayton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Clayton pushed their record up to 7-10 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Towson, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Clayton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-1 win against Pittsburg on the 10th. As for Fort Towson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-5 loss against Bennington on the 10th.
