Recap: Permian Panthers vs. Riverside Rangers
The Permian Panthers's game on Saturday was all tied up 18-18 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 45-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Riverside. While losing is never fun, Permian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 644th, while Riverside is ranked 131st).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riverside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Yazmin Rios, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Rios has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Sophiya Bustillos was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Permian and nudges their season record down to 8-9. As for Riverside, the win was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-1.
Permian will be playing at home against Odessa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Monahans at 2:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Monahans has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
