Baseball Game Preview: Elgin Maroons vs. Bartlett Hawks

For the second straight game, Elgin will face off against Bartlett. The Maroons will venture away from home to take on the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elgin has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while Bartlett will come in with four straight wins.

Monday just wasn't the day for Elgin's offense. They came up short against Bartlett on Monday, falling 11-0.

For Bartlett's part, Vince Yario made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Bartlett is 2-1 when Yario allows one or fewer hits, but 10-12-1 otherwise. Yario was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Josh Colaizzi was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Bartlett's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 8-1 (and 4-12-1 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Austin Daubenmire, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Elgin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-15-1. As for Bartlett, their record is now 12-13-1.
