League recap: Putnam Vo-Tech tops Chicopee Comp to extend winning streak

Suburban recap Oct. 9, 2012

Putnam Vo-Tech extended the longest winning streak in Suburban this week by beating Chicopee Comp, 40-19. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Beavers.

Chicopee and West Springfield played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Chicopee eventually emerging with a 22-20 victory.

Putnam Vo-Tech's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kajuan Bynum threw for 299 and three touchdowns and Tavis Humphie-Frazer had 107 yards receiving. On the ground Jaleel Brown chipped in 165 yards. David Spears jr. helped Putnam Vo-Tech's passing attack out by catching four balls for 77 yards.

Bill Watson's team's Bynum and Rishawn Harris have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Bynum has thrown for 995 yards this season, while Harris, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 20 catches for 376 yards. South Hadley's Bryan Shippee leads the league in rushing yards with 390.

A big matchup in Suburban this week will be when the Tigers take on the Pacers. South Hadley is currently in first, while Chicopee is in fourth.

Eric Scammons' team took down Ludlow 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Riley Villeneuve ran for 66 yards in the win.
