Basketball Recap: Sutherland Falls Despite Big Games from Tristan Maxcy and Keigan Kershner

Sutherland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They lost 64-38 to the Garden County Eagles. The Sailors were down 43-19 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Sutherland's loss came despite strong showings from Keigan Kershner and Tristan Maxcy. Kershner posted seven points and five steals, while Maxcy put up four points and seven boards. Those five steals gave Kershner a new career-high.

Garden County was led to victory by Wilsie Lobner and Blake Dean. Lobner went 7 for 15 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals, while Dean went 7 of 13 en route to 15 points and four steals. Lobner has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kole Fornander, who scored 12 points and seven boards.

Sutherland's record is now 2-14. As for Garden County, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-7.

Sutherland will challenge Wauneta-Palisade on Friday. Garden County has already played their next game (against Arthur County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
