Softball Recap: Brewer Victorious

After only two runs in their last contest, Brewer made sure to put some runs up on the board against Ellsworth on Tuesday. The Witches put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-4 win. Considering the Witches' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Sara Young made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Young was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Brewer let Sarah Snowdeal and Jill Ford run wild. Snowdeal went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Ford went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Olivia Bragdon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Brewer's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Ellsworth, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brewer will challenge Skowhegan at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ellsworth, they will square off against Hermon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
