Basketball Recap: Carolina Day Comes Up Short

If Carolina Day was feeling good fresh off their 58-38 takedown of Oakbrook Prep last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Carolina Day Wildcats were beaten by the Asheville School (Independent) Blues 71-30 on Thursday. The Wildcats have struggled against the Blues recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Carolina Day's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layla Hunter, who posted seven points and seven boards. Hunter has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Amy Rhymer was another key player, putting up ten points.

Ryann Hernandez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Asheville School (Independent), going 8 of 12 on her way to 18 points. Another player making a difference was Alisha Watkins, who went 5 for 12 to rack up 11 points and four steals.

Carolina Day's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Asheville School (Independent), the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-4.

Looking ahead, Carolina Day won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hickory Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Asheville School (Independent) does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
