Softball Recap: Meridian Trojans vs. Squalicum Storm
Meridian scored the most runs they've had all season to find success on Friday. Everything went their way against the Squalicum Storm as the Meridian Trojans made off with a 26-5 win. Considering Meridian has won four contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Katie Prengaman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Prengaman has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive pitching appearances. Prengaman was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with a home run, six RBI, and three runs.
In other batting news, Meridian got a massive performance out of Lexi Neil, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Sydney TenKley, who scored five runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meridian's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Squalicum, they haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meridian will take on Oak Harbor at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Harbor is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Squalicum, they will be playing at home against Lakewood at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
