Basketball Game Preview: Heritage Eagles vs. Grand Junction Tigers

After both having extra time off, the Heritage Eagles and the Grand Junction Tigers will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Grand Junction is hoping to do what Fort Collins couldn't last Friday: put an end to Heritage's winning streak, which now stands at four games. Heritage walked away with a 64-53 win over Fort Collins. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Lambkins are ranked 222nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Heritage's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brayden Chaney, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Trystan Rangel, who posted 17 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Grand Junction's good fortune finally ran out last Friday. They fell 65-58 to Eagle Valley.

Grand Junction's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Heritage took their win against Grand Junction in their previous matchup back in January of 2019 by a conclusive 75-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Heritage since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
