Football Preview: Cabrini Monarchs vs. Our Lady of the Lakes Lakers
The Cabrini Monarchs will take on the Our Lady of the Lakes Lakers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cabrini is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Cabrini hadn't beaten Cardinal Mooney Catholic on the road since August 26, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Monarchs blew past the Cardinals, posting a 42-7 victory. Cabrini got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lander Emerick out in front who picked up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 64 yards and one score. Emerick showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 64 yards. Evan Bergdoll was another key signal caller, throwing for 145 yards and four TDs on only ten passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cabrini was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.
Meanwhile, Our Lady of the Lakes entered their contest against Everest Collegiate on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Lakers fell 21-14 to Everest Collegiate. The Lakers were right on the edge of victory: they outscored Everest Collegiate in the fourth quarter 8-0.
Defeat or not, Our Lady of the Lakes got some senior leadership from James Ware and Ryan Locey. Ware rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown, while Locey picked up 101 receiving yards and one score.
Cabrini's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Our Lady of the Lakes, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
