Baseball Game Preview: Montello Hilltoppers vs. Rio Vikings

The Montello Hilltoppers will head out on the road to square off against the Rio Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Montello will be strutting in after a victory while Rio will be coming in after a defeat.

Montello took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Fall River, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hilltoppers had just enough and edged out the Pirates 9-8 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hilltoppers have posted since April 8th.

Pardeeville hit Rio with a six-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 14-1. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Rio's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Montello, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.

Everything went Montello's way against Rio in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Montello made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hilltoppers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
