For the first time this season, Savannah Christian will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the Savannah Country Day Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Savannah Christian fought the good fight in their overtime game against Blessed Trinity on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 35-32. The Raiders were up 22-7 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.
The losing side was boosted by Blaise Thomas, who threw for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 passes, and also rushed for 67 yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Savannah Country Day). They came out on top against Tattnall County by a score of 34-21 last Friday.
Savannah Christian better keep an eye on Thomas Holland. He was instrumental in Savannah Country Day's win, rushing for 106 yards and one TD on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 197 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes. Holland's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Najee Young, who rushed for 81 yards and a pair of scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Savannah Country Day was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 217 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Savannah Country Day's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Savannah Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Savannah Christian has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 220.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Savannah Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 172 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Savannah Christian against Savannah Country Day in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 31-3 win. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
