Baseball Recap: Burgettstown Victorious

Burgettstown won the last time they faced Bentworth and things went their way on Monday too. The Blue Devils walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Bearcats.

Matthew Bredel made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Burgettstown is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Bredel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Neal, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Mason Tichenor also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Burgettstown's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Bentworth, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Burgettstown will have a chance to go back-to-back against Bentworth: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
