Baseball Recap: Harbor Teacher Finds Playoff Glory Versus Stella High Charter Academy

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Harbor Teacher had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-7 margin over the Stella High Charter Academy Eagles. The Monarchs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Derek Nieves was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Harbor Teacher got a massive performance out of Mason Salcedo, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and four RBI. Those four runs gave Salcedo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Nevarez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Harbor Teacher was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .559. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Harbor Teacher has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Stella High Charter Academy, the defeat snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 9-4-1 record.

Looking ahead, Harbor Teacher will face off against Van Nuys at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Monarchs surely won't give up without a fight. Stella High Charter Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
