Basketball Recap: Teagan Leihgeber's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Central over Lawrenceburg

East Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-40 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lawrenceburg Tigers. The Trojans were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

East Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Teagan Leihgeber, who posted eight points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Leihgeber has posted since back in November of 2024. Natalie Stenger was another key player, putting up nine points.

Lawrenceburg's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kamryn Ferreira, who scored 14 points. Ferreira continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Knigga, who had nine points and seven boards.

East Central's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Lawrenceburg, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Central has already played their next contest (against Connersville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lawrenceburg will welcome Greensburg at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Greensburg will roll in looking for their 20th straight victory, something Lawrenceburg surely won't give up without a fight.
