Basketball Game Preview: Spackenkill Spartans vs. Our Lady of Lourdes Warriors

The Spackenkill Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Our Lady of Lourdes Warriors at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

While Spackenkill didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They breezed by Dover to the tune of 54-14 on Thursday. That looming 54-14 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Spartans yet this season.

Blythe McQuade was her usual excellent self, going 6 of 14 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Iliana Haddad, who posted six points along with five boards and three steals.

Spackenkill was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Our Lady of Lourdes). They blew past New Paltz 75-17 on Friday. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Huguenots are ranked 390th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Our Lady of Lourdes pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Spackenkill, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
