Softball Game Preview: Barlow Bruins vs. Central Catholic Rams

For the first time this season, Barlow will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Central Catholic Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Barlow's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Central Catholic's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Barlow fell victim to Sherwood and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Bowmen, falling 7-0.

Kaylee Pokorny 2025 was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

Meanwhile, Central Catholic scored first but ultimately less than Sunset in their matchup on Wednesday. They fell 10-7 to the Apollos. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Portland Razo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. Emery Pike also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.

Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Barlow, they dropped their record down to 6-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Barlow might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Central Catholic when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
