Basketball Recap: Quitman Starts off Right with Win over Lawrence County

Quitman gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They walked away with a 47-34 victory over the Lawrence County Cougars. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cougars, too.

Quitman was led to victory by SERENITY BROWN and CAMILLE LAPHAND. BROWN dropped a double-double with ten points and 12 boards, while LAPHAND went 5-for-10 on her way to 10 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave BROWN a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (67%). Another player making a difference was KA'LEY MOODY, who posted six points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Defeat or not, Lawrence County got some senior leadership from Addie Pennington and Saage Garner. Pennington put up seven points along with eight steals and six rebounds, while Garner earned 12 points.

Lawrence County now has a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Quitman will look to defend their home court on Thursday against South Jones at 6:00 p.m. As for Lawrence County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-23 win against Natchez on the 11th.
