Basketball Recap: Josiah Irwin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Genoa-Hugo/Karval

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McClave, Kit Carson was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They walked away with a 48-39 victory over the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 41-40 win the Pirates walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Kit Carson's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Irwin, who went 11-for-16 on his way to 24 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Irwin a new career-high in shooting accuracy (69%). Another player making a difference was Brennan Framel, who posted five points and ten boards.

Kit Carson was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Genoa-Hugo/Karval only posted four assists.

Defeat or not, Genoa-Hugo/Karval got some senior leadership from Shane Reid and Eddy Franey. Reid dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Franey scored ten points and eight boards.

Kit Carson's record is now 7-11. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, their record now sits at 4-14.

Coincidentally, Kit Carson and Genoa-Hugo/Karval will both be playing Eads the next time they take the court. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will head out to face Eads at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Kit Carson will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
