Russell came tearing into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They beat the Ellis Railroaders by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 4-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-1 on Friday.

Max Evans made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Jared Ford was excellent, going 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and one run. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last ten times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Rohr, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Russell's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Ellis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.

Russell has already played their next contest (against Plainville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Ellis, they will take on Skyline at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something the Railroaders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
