Football Game Preview: Byron Nelson Bobcat vs. Northwest Texans

The Byron Nelson Bobcat are taking a road trip to take on the Northwest Texans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Byron Nelson is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Byron Nelson had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 22-point drubbing they dealt V.R. Eaton on Friday. The Bobcat were the clear victors by a 48-26 margin over the Eagles. Given the Bobcat's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Eagles are ranked 124th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Parker Almanza was his usual excellent self, throwing for 359 yards and six TDs, while also rushing for 57 yards and one touchdown. Collin Janese also deserves some recognition as he hauled in his first receiving touchdown of the season.

Meanwhile, Northwest played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Southlake Carroll and fell 57-7. The Texans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-7.

Byron Nelson's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Northwest, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

It's a different story for Northwest, though, as they've been averaging only 156.7 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?

Byron Nelson strolled past Northwest in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a score of 21-7. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Texans' Nathanial Jean, who rushed for 150 yards and one score. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bobcat to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
