Football Recap: Immaculata Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Immaculata had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They enjoyed a cozy 45-30 win over the Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Daysir Spille was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 199 yards and six scores while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 77-yard run. Another rusher making a difference was Nic Stokes, who gained 119 total yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Immaculata was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 358 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Immaculata didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Quinn Hayden led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself.

Kellenberg Memorial's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of John Hastings, who picked up 128 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Brendan Barkley, who rushed for 117 yards and one TD. Daniel Licari was another key player, having thrown for 368 yards and two touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Immaculata will be playing in front of their home fans against Peddie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kellenberg Memorial, they will head out to square off against Xavier at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
