Softball Recap: Wakeland Drops Season-High Score on Creekview

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wakeland). Everything went their way against the Creekview Mustangs on Tuesday as the Wakeland Wolverines made off with an 18-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won five in a row.

Jordan Mcnees spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, Claire Schreiner was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. Maggie Drake was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 5-for-5.

Wakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Creekview only posted an OBP of .269.

Wakeland's record is now 13-3. As for Creekview, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-10.

Wakeland and Creekview should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Wakeland (ranked 106th) will meet Lone Star (ranked 266th) at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wakeland's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Creekview's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, Creekview will take on The Colony at 6:45 p.m. on Friday up 477 places (304 vs. 781).
