Softball Game Preview: Waukegan Bulldogs vs. Highland Park Giants

The Waukegan Bulldogs will face off against the Highland Park Giants at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Waukegan is looking for their season's first victory.

Waukegan is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Wheeling on Thursday, falling 23-3.

LeiLani Nieves made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those hits marked the first that she got this season.

Meanwhile, Highland Park had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They never let Regina Dominican get on the board and left with a 15-0 win back in March. The Giants not only won back in March, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.

Lily Freedman made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Freedman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Marin Killeen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Swick, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Highland Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .742. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Regina Dominican only posted an OBP of .200.

Waukegan's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Highland Park, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
