Basketball Game Preview: Portsmouth West Senators vs. South Webster Jeeps

The Portsmouth West Senators are taking a road trip to square off against the South Webster Jeeps at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Portsmouth West came up short against Minford on Tuesday, falling 70-47. While losing is never fun, the Senators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 336th, while the Falcons are ranked tenth).

Meanwhile, everything went South Webster's way against Waverly on Tuesday as South Webster made off with a 64-42 win. The Jeeps have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.

South Webster's win came from a few key players Portsmouth West will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Christian White, who went 7 of 11 en route to 18 points and six boards. Those 18 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Barnard, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 12 points.

South Webster smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Portsmouth West has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for South Webster, their record now sits at 15-1.

Portsmouth West might still be hurting after the 65-40 defeat they got from South Webster in their previous matchup last Tuesday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of South Webster's Eli Roberts, who went 11 of 19 en route to 33 points and eight rebounds.
