A District 5 recap October 22, 2013

Alex Agostine of Lincoln Southeast ran for the longest rushing play in A District 5 this season against Lincoln Northeast last week. Agostine scampered for 77 yards on the play and finished with 85 on the day as his team topped the Rockets.

Lincoln East extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Norfolk, 28-24. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Spartans.

Lincoln East's dynamic duo of Shane Watteyne and Ryan Schrad proved tough for the Panthers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Watteyne threw for 305 yards and 3 touchdowns and Schrad had 156 yards receiving. Bryan Reimers helped Lincoln East's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 88 yards.

Colton Abendroth was a key player and the best on defense this week as Pius X fell to Lincoln Southwest. He nabbed 1 interception and recorded 1 fumble.

He was 17-28 with 1 interception.

6-foot-4 quarterback Luke Gifford of Lincoln Southeast is the league leader in passing yards this season with 893. He has also thrown 4 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Reimers. The Lincoln East star has 21 catches for 491 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Lincoln East takes on second place Lincoln Southwest.

Next week's game between Ryan Gottula's team and the Thunderbolts will feature an aerial matchup as Gifford tests his arm against Noah Appleget's defensive ability.

John Gingery's team and Norfolk played the most contested game in A District 5 this week, with John Gingery's team eventually emerging with a 28-24 victory. Watteyne in the win.
