Basketball Game Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Rome Wolves

The Alexander Cougars will square off against the Rome Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

Alexander will bounce into Thursday's match after beating New Manchester, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Alexander walked away with a 41-34 win over New Manchester on Thursday.

Alexander found their leader in sophomore Nimah Ibidunni, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Ibidunni is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rachel Porter, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Rome had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Villa Rica on Tuesday, sneaking past 48-46. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Wildcats are ranked 314th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alexander pushed their record up to 17-8 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.5 points over those games. As for Rome, their win bumped their record up to 19-7.
