Sunnyside Christian is 6-1 against Pomeroy since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Sunnyside Christian Knights will be taking part in a tournament against the Pomeroy Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Saturday, Sunnyside Christian was fully in charge, breezing past Walla Walla Valley Academy 65-37.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Pomeroy on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Waitsburg out of the water with a 51-22 final score. The victory was nothing new for the Pirates as they're now sitting on three straight.

Sunnyside Christian better focus on containing Kyzer Herres and Jett Slusser as the pair were huge in Pomeroy's win. Herres went 10 for 15 en route to 20 points and five rebounds, while Slusser posted six points in addition to 12 boards and five assists. Slusser is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down 12 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cesar Morfin, who scored four points and three steals.

Pomeroy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32.8 points. As for Sunnyside Christian, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7.

Sunnyside Christian couldn't quite finish off Pomeroy when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 50-48. Thankfully for Sunnyside Christian, Oliver Severs (who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
