Basketball Recap: Valley Falls Dragons vs. Atchison Phoenix
The Valley Falls Dragons can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They walked away with a 55-48 win over Atchison. This was payback for Valley Falls, who suffered a 53-40 loss the last time these two teams met.
It was another big night for Korie Kirkwood, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Valley Falls' points. Another player making a difference was Lauren Brown, who scored eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Atchison lost, one person who can't be blamed is Presley Simpson. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyeera Heyward, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Atchison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Falls only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Valley Falls' win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Atchison, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
