Basketball Recap: Edgewood Comes Up Short

If Edgewood was feeling good fresh off their 59-35 takedown of Geneva last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Edgewood Warriors took a 49-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maplewood Rockets on Saturday. The game marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Maplewood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Urchek, who went 6 of 14 en route to 21 points and six rebounds. Urchek continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Himes, who posted six points and seven steals.

Edgewood's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Maplewood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-2 record this season.

The future could be bright for both Edgewood and Maplewood: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Edgewood will look to extend Corry's three-game losing streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Similarly, Maplewood will try to hand Windham their eighth-straight loss when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th.
